Is it possible to run the front wheel of a 1975-1977 GL1000 on a 1977 CB750F? I want to get bigger tires for my bike but the stock 19 x 1.85 won't allow that. Or would I have to lace a CB hub to the GL rim? In that case will stock spokes fit the GL Rim?
The Wrenchmonkees guys are running the size of tires I want and are using stock rims, which are around the same size at the CBs, so is it possible to put a 400 x 19 tire on a 1.85 x 19 rim?
Yeah I like the look of spokes much better, I found the rear wheel of a 76' F model (which is a spoke wheel that runs a disc barke) on line. Now All I think I'm going to do is find the front wheel of a K model and run that.
I want to run the Firestone Champion Deluxe tires, 4.00 x 19 front and 450 x 18 rear. I talk to a guy at a shop here and he said it can be done on my stock wheels and that I would only have a problem with my speedo and turning. I'm curious, how are taller wheels going to effect my turning?
Turning is going to feel a lot heavier. These bikes aren't exactly corner carvers compared to todays bikes, but a fatter tire like that will slow it even more. Although the gyro effect will be stronger. You will also have more unsprung weight which can affect your handling over bumps. You may need to put shims between the caps and springs in the forks to accommodate. A set of progressive springs would work well too but that would be about $100.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
