Spark plugs

maltaman
Hi I have a 1976 Honda cb 360. Don't ride it much. Engine runs great. The problem is that the spark plugs don't last. It usually sits for a few weeks and sometimes it's hard to start and then I find out that one of the spark plugs is bad. It does not matter which cylinder. Sometimes both spark plugs are bad. This only happen when I go to start it when it has been sitting for a few weeks, never had a spark plug that goes bad when I am riding. Engine runs great no oil burning no misfire. This is the 3 rd set of plugs in probably 100 miles. Anyone encountered this? Any Ideas????? Thanks

Are you using NGK spark plugs? Those are the only spark plugs that work in Japanese motorcycles. Can you post some pictures of the spark plugs?

Re: Spark plugs

Found out the problem. Like I said I don't use the motorcycle much and when I do it is less than a 5 mile round trip. It sits all winter and use it maybe once a month or every other month in summer. Saying that, I figure that some soot on the spark plug would be normal since I am using the chock and going on short distances. What I did not expect is that when the bike sits the little soot on the tip of the spark plug is creating an insulation preventing the spark to jump to ground. I cleaned the spark plugs good with a wire brush and no more problem. Now I need to see if I can get some gap less spark plugs and see if they would work better.

Thanks

Soot? You could be running a little rich. I would go to a B7ES plug, or better yet an Iridium plug.

The Part# should be 5044.

Re: Spark plugs

Thanks for the info.  I see that the 5044 is a replacement for the NGK B8ES.  If I want to use a hotter plug NGK B7ES what is the number in Iridium.

Thanks

Denso plugs also work good in these old bike. Ngk is the standard now, but back in the day, denso was also a good choice.
