I'd like to get more riding/top speed out of my bike. I am assuming that if I change my sprocket this will happen, I also understand that she won't be as quick out of the start and that's fine, I'm not planning to drag race anyone. It just seems like I'm not getting all I should out of my bike, everyone says 100mph should be no problem but I'm not even close when I'm in 5th gear. Any recomendations as to what type of sprocket will help me achieve this?
Now contrary to what you might think, you should DROP the front sprocket 1 tooth.
This would actually raise your RPM. The reason is that the 18/47 combo ends up gearing too low and the engine cant spool properly.
I run the 17/47 and can go like hell and easily clear 100.
What happened was that these motors in the 70s were good chain breakers. So honda upped the front tooth count to rotate the chain through a bit less and reduce wear. The 69 had a 16T front and cracked a lot of cases.
Now back to rpm, I asked as if your rpm is very high, as in 8000 or more and you are not hitting close to 100, your clutch may be slipping and need adjustment.
The ride IS the adventure. The destination is just to get gas!
